There was an interesting take on this in the August edition of Clarkesworld. A scientist involved in sending a probe to the Kuiper belt recognizes the beginning of the collapse so she stuffs the probe with as much knowledge as she can, knowing it won't return for hundreds of years. It's worth a read for sure.
