Our inability to know how much time we have left probably does push us to seek things like wealth, legacy, and meaning because they offer a sense of control or permanence in an otherwise uncertain life. Since we can’t control time, I suppose we try to build something “lasting”—whether it's through financial security, leaving an impact, or finding purpose in the short time we have.
If we knew our “time balance,” it could affect our priorities in different ways. If I knew my time was limited, I think I’d care less about external pursuits like wealth and focus more on finding meaning in the present—through deeper relationships, personal fulfillment, or memorable experiences. The finite nature of time would push me to re-evaluate what truly matters: connections, inner peace, and creating purposeful moments.
However, if I knew I had a lot of time—enough to still build meaningful relationships, grow personally, and enjoy a variety of experiences—I might be more inclined to double down on financial goals. With a larger amount of wealth, I could help more people in a positive way, knowing I had the time to grow and share it.
