Question for the privacy-focused tech people: what is actually involved in attaining enough fluency in tech stuff to be able to, for example, get/keep a computer functioning on Linux, install GrapheneOS on a Google Pixel, sandbox software creeps on devices, establish effective firewalls, do all the inevitable troubleshooting, etc.? How did you learn to do those things? Would someone basically have to train for a tech career to learn it?

As the tech giants go increasingly off the rails with stealing our data (and passing it to much more sinister institutions than advertisers), more ordinary, non-techy people are going to need to know how to do this stuff and share/teach that skill to our communities. So where/how did you learn it?
