an old phone can be sold to somebody who will replace the battery and get real use out of it

the idle time on your desktop will never be of as much use to anybody as a working phone would be ( i don't believe in Crypto mining )

so the protocol doesn't support it so what big deal - change the protocol

that said if a phone is not resellable for some reason ( for example my mother's Galaxy S8 Plus lost audio in the earpiece ) then it is certainly preferable to give it second life as a server then turn it into E-Waste.

either way the point remains the same - the protocol needs to evolve to adapt to physical and economic reality. it is not the bible. and even the Bible is just paper.
