You mean that for many people, there's an unspoken (or often vocalized) assumption that Christians own the U.S., and to be American is to be Christian? That seems right to me — and, of course, it's all based on the lie that this nation was founded as a Christian nation for Christian purposes. Yes, a whole lot of people absolutely do believe this and want to force the rest of us to believe it, and that's a big problem.
