an unintentional extra i got out of buying a little, cheap IPS 144hz display was that it has HDR
linux doesn't really implement HDR properly yet, for the most part, and it takes a little demonstration to actually see what it means - more detail in the dark parts of the scene
i am sad to have to resort to using windows again so i can get the most out of my hardware but HDR and high frame rates and a good video card are a package and if you want to have more immersive gaming these days you need to have this package
the other benefit i'm finding is the color of my displays is more consistent, not perfect but better than i could wrangle from days of haxing on linux
in future i'm just gonna get a 4k+ display with HDR, and probably nvidia and run linux but for now this is what i got and i need to stop spending on tech, this is ok, and right now one spend on getting windows has paid off good
windows is such a clunky, antiquated OS though, i'm not happy about how they monopolized the hardware, this is the bug in my ass since 20 years or more
if they didn't build moats around this hardware tech the situation would be way different... i am optimistic, i think that this will distribute sooner or later
fact is that building stuff for GNU/Linux is cheaper, that's the real reason why it has proliferated, and microsoft has steadily divested its codebase assets as time goes on and it's very clear that within 5 years they are basically gonna deliver a linux distro, or maybe BSD
