Obviously, spending 100% of my time in zone 3 should score higher than spending 100% of my time in zone 2, which further should score higher than spending 100% of my time in zone 1.

But when that cubic is applied instead of using the zone percentage differences, then the zone score breakdown becomes:

Zone 1: 6.92
Zone 2: 9.12
Zone 3: 10.15
Zone 4: 26.90
Zone 5: 76.30

Much better.

I reached out to the researchers. I'll update this thread if they respond.
