Fiction is fiction, so then you have to evaluate whether or not the author created a world in which would satisfy a plausible story. Considering it is based on a system we currently live in, I believe it misrepresents and discludes factors that would otherwise be important for it to be used as some sort of guide stone for the circumstances we currently reside in.
Obviously, this is push back against the hype. But, if you're into fiction dictating how you see current circumstance then just read Rand.
