In 1937 John W. Campbell Jr. became editor of Astounding Science Fiction, ushering in SF's golden age.
In 1957 pulp magazine sales collapsed destroying the short story market forever and wiping out most science fiction mags.
So the golden age of science fiction lasted no more than 20 years. Probably 19, as it took Campbell some time to hammer the magazine into shape.
