Social provisioning in the USA is very selective, does not provision the neediest, but rewards the wealthy.
So to socially provision the USA you would need a political revolution..
So practically speaking, in the USA, I would bet on intentional communities. Which would not need to be "communes". More likely geographic communities that have some cooperative spirit. Those do somewhat exist, for example in the Driftless Area, where we live.
