Caused by the rise of the extreme right that draws from resentment and needs a scapegoat to thrive on. The deeper lying cause is years of neoliberal government that has widened the gap between the haves and the havenots tremendously. And that is not unique to the UK but also seen in Europe and in the USA. We need a more social form of government that does not only measure in shareholders value but rather in wellbeing of its citizens.
