I think bowing to the head nurse is a bit over the top, but knowing your patients as people before diagnosis is a good idea.
The emphasis on academia has not served the profession the way it was intended to. I am disturbed by the trend of encouraging our best and brightest young nurses to leave the bedside and climb the ladder.
