Wow, it's an honor to hear from you! I have read and reread your Golden Age of the Solar Clipper series, which I loved.
I suspect self-pub long-form genre fiction only works well when the author is an excellent storyteller—like you 😀.
I've been lucky to write nonfiction for a fairly large professional market (the meeting industry) in a niche that no one else covered in detail. My books boost my professional visibility. High royalties, but I'll never be rich from my book sales alone.
