I helped launch an updated BOLT12.org! https://bolt12.org/
If you're into #bitcoin, why should you care about BOLT 12? Well, I'll tell you why I care about it.
When I was working full-time on the Bitcoin Design (npub13s5…l03e) Guide, we worked on a reference design called the Daily Spending Wallet: an easy, mobile-first, self-custodial, lightning wallet. https://bitcoin.design/guide/daily-spending-wallet/
However, the friction of BOLT 11 invoice creation and the inability to receive payments while offline made the wallet feel less useful to me. I saw these as fatal flaws, and no amount of beautiful UI design would fix these.
Jump to present: BOLT 12 can fix these fatal flaws. With "offers", we have a fixed payment identifier for the user that does not need to be refreshed. Adoption of BOLT 12 also paves the way for async payments, which fixes the offline receive problem.
It's still early days, but we are already seeing many projects adopt BOLT 12. I would love to see your bitcoin project added to the list on this website! Source: https://github.com/sbddesign/bolt12.org
