Well, I now have documentation from my new psych confirming a diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder.
For anybody wondering, schizoaffective is schizophrenia *plus* bipolar or major depressive disorder. Mine would be the bipolar type. It's a 2 for 1 deal.
As weird as it sounds, I find it incredibly validating. It confirms I haven't been making up everything, that my struggles aren't a product of overreaction or imagination. But also it feels kinda surreal to have this quite serious diagnosis.
It's OK though. I have suspected I was on the schizophrenia spectrum for years, so it's not a shock. All I have wanted was the *correct* diagnosis so I can get on the right treatment plan, and hopefully improve my quality of life.
