I make an effort to compliment strangers as often as possible, I think it makes more of a difference than people realize. There's a real tension though because while guys don't receive a lot of random compliments, there's a real risk of them taking any compliment as an excuse to get weirdly pushy. It's a tight rope walk sometimes and I'm also pretty willing to risk having to push back, but it does reinforce that as much as some guys will complain about not receiving much positive attention it's often because guys make that a fraught proposition
