"No kill" animal shelters do not actually prevent animals from being killed. A shelter being "no kill" (typically) means that they remain under a certain *percentage* of animals euthanized, they still euthanize. The distinction between "kill" and "no kill" has honestly done more harm than good, by making people believe that certain shelters are inherently more cruel than others. Or that it's okay to let pets breed willy nilly because surrendered pets are certain to not die if you simply dump them at the "right place".
What you can actually do to decrease the amount of the euthanized pets, is donate and volunteer FOR "kill shelters", so they have more resources to care for animals who will not be quickly adopted out or require more specialized care. Along with sterilizing your pets. Become a foster home for shelter pets, if able. Be kind to your local "kill" shelter, they're not just open because "too many people don't care enough about animals", it's because they provide the same service. If they close, the "no kill" shelter might become the new "kill" shelter (or will just turn down more pets) because they don't have the resources to provide for the number of pets coming in.
