Laurens (npub1vy2…c4uy) "In the last two editions of Last Week in Fediverse I remarked on the language shift I see, where 'fediverse' starts to take on a broader meaning, and Bluesky and Nostr are start to get included in the definition as well. Think it's worth spending a bit more attention to that in this email, with some loose observations:
- The wider meaning of the term fediverse (as in, it includes Bluesky and Nostr) is something I've mainly noticed in the US based tech sector
- Over at the European side of the people that I know in the fediverse community, this is not happening at all, and there is in general barely any attention being paid to Bluesky, Nostr and Farcaster.
- I see more openness towards a cross-pollination of ideas between the different networks. When Bluesky released 'Starter Packs' (more on that next week), there was a significant response in the fediverse that something similar should be implemented for ActivityPub as well.
How these trends are working together, and how it influences people's understanding of what the fediverse is, is something I'm definitely keeping a close eye on."
