Who is this "we" who are saying this? Because consistent feedback from Black people is that the #fediverse has just as much or more anti-Blackness as on centralized social media platforms. And I've similar heard from a lot of women that Reply Guy-ism is worse here than elsewhere.
I certainly think it would be useful for ways in which the fediverse can potentially be better than centralized social networks, look for evidence to calibrate whether it currently is, and take a "positive deviance" approach by building on what works well (including emphasizing the positive aspects in communications). But the framing of "it's better, we just need to prove it" isn't great.
Stuff like Stefan Bohacek (npub1kqc…7wgd)'s poll is useful even though it's a self selecting sample and not statistically valid (etc etc etc), and understanding *why* some people find it less stressful could be useful for advocacy -- just as understanding why some people find it *more* stressful points to needed improvements. But it's still important to take the racialized aspects into account. I saw a post from @so_treu@blackqueer.life on another network pointing out that in the post-Twitter microblogging world, white people have been trying to recreate segregated spaces. I wonder how much of a factor that is in terms of the people who find it less stressful?
