That quote from Goenka is worth noting, for both promoters and critics of meditation who think it's about withdrawing from the "material world". The purpose of meditation practices is not to spend the rest of your life contemplating our navel in cloistered privilege. But to increase our capacity to respond to the world - instead of reacting from our own psychic wounds - caring for ourselves and others effectively, and leaving the world a better place than we find it.
