When you say "Do [THING] or I won't vote," you're effectively telling the candidate "Please ignore me."
If you want candidates to pay attention to you, a much more effective message is "Do [THING] or I will support whoever is going to primary you."
Fewer people turn out for primaries, which makes primary challenges a lot scarier for candidates. Each $ they have to spend in a primary is a $ they'll miss in the general. If you want change, vote smart.
Not voting only helps the lunatic fringe.
