The Sparrow - Part One (A Thread)

In the closing moments of spring, the was sun casting a warm golden glow upon the countryside, a delicate tapestry of scents danced upon the breeze. The air was infused with the heady fragrance of blooming wildflowers, their colourful petals swaying in harmony with the gentle wind. Dew-kissed grasses carpeted the landscape, releasing a fresh and earthy aroma that mingled with the sweet perfume of blossoming fruit trees.

In this idyllic setting, nestled within the embrace of nature, a young boy toiled under the cruel grip of a wicked couple. As he worked, lost in the dreams of finding a better life he heard the delicate song of a single sparrow singing from a nearby tree. The young boy stopped for a moment to listen, only to have this moment of tranquility shattered by the barking orders coming from his adopted father, "get back to work you ungrateful swine!"

The couple had taken the young boy in when he was a toddler, but the warm embrace of family that was promised never eventuated. The couple had hearts as cold as the winter frost, and from the moment he was strong enough to hold a spade they forced him to till the fields and tend to their farmstead. His emaciated frame bore witness to their relentless exploitation, sustained by meagre vegetable scraps and the dregs of a barrel.

On this day as the sun began its descent, the sparrow, who can been watching from his porch in the tree fluttered into the farmhouse. Startled by the unexpected visitor, the wicked farmer snatched the bird, imprisoning it within the confines of a cage. The farmer's eyes gleamed with malice as he vowed to torment the creature until it sang a sweet melody to his delight.
