I’ve been playing a lot with webassembly recently, getting my C++ code base to compile to it. Seems to work pretty well once you figure out the incantations needed to cross compile.
I can see a lot of processing being push back to the client because of this. Same way as mainframes + terminals (and x terminals) gave way to PCs.
Though UNIX in your browser is probably over kill.
