yes, but "intelligently" - e.g. when you have a manually wrapped piece of text and you're trying to read it on a more narrow screen with automatic word wrap, it splits every line into a longer and a shorter line.

i've run into this a bunch of times and to me it's one of the most unreadable things. i've even seen hard wrap applied to text broken up like that.

would be really awesome if there was some tool or command invocation which could automatically fix that...
