I disagree. A tiny group wouldn't have much influence with a decent or even a morally neutral citizenry. That they can buy their votes by openly courting fascists is the tell-tale sign.
The response to COVID sealed the deal for me. Antivaxers won. They managed to successfully confront basic safety measures souch so that people wearing masks are now harassed.
