"content": "as I said, I think your model is too simple. The router had a route from BGP had a valid next hop that was pingable from the router. I didn't check the source address used by the router - it's quite possible that the behaviour is source address specific (e.g. the address on the exchange works) amongst many other explanations I haven't thought of.",
