Cortez' war of conquest was bloody enough that it eclipsed the flower wars though. And all for what? Some gold? They even managed to lose most of it into the lake while retreating in panic after the Aztecs rose against them.
The things the Aztecs (and surrounding cultures) did really sucked, but the violence was quite limited, it only happened to a small minority of the overall population. The conquest caused pretty widespread famine and disease, not to mention massive slaughter of the population.
Whether any one individual suffered more than a religious sacrifice is hard to say, but the scale of the devastation was on another level.
