A " million crypto currencies".
I hear this quote very often in the media, and am sick of it. I'm sick of it, because it is misleading bullshit, it's a lie, and It is misdirection.
The first huge issues are the terms "crypto" and "currency". Most of the blockchain tokens are NEITHER cryptographic in nature OR a currency in any stretch of the definition. There is indeed a million gambling shit tokens that can be printed as fast as the internet can move, but they are not cryptographically secure, decentralized, a currency, a money, scarce, or really of any other value EXCEPT to the organization that created them. And to the people that created them, they are only as valuable as the hype they can assign to them. The king of these shitcoins is none other than XRP by Ripple Labs. Don't buy their bullshit, because they are spending billions on the propogandizing.
There will only be one real money that is decentralized, scarce, and secure. That's Bitcoin.
Don't take my word for it. Research hard yourself. Start with Ripple campaign donations. I think you will find me correct.
