As for Vim's broad capabilities - you can choose what capabilities to use, but I can assure you that people who know how drive Vim are vastly more effective than those who can't (note: I don't claim to drive Vim anywhere near as well as some do!). It's like a touch typer being forced to watch someone hunt-and-peck.
