A small number of House Republicans could partner with the Democrats to choose a new non-crazy Speaker, they could work together to pass legislation, and we'd have a functioning government again.
Why don't they? I don't know, but I have thoughts.
1) They're afraid of being killed by domestic madmen.
2) Being in the House is so much fun (lucrative?); if they compromise, they'll lose their seats.
3) There are no House Republicans capable of compromise. They don't know how.
Discouraging.
