Feeling triggered?
Observe it as an inner child trying to protect you.
Where is it located in your body?
Focus on it there.
Notice how you feel toward it.
Do you dislike it?
Are you afraid of it?
Do you resent how it dominates?
Do you depend on it?
If you cannot get in, ask the other protective parts of you to rest so that you can get in:
Ask it what it wants you to know about it.
Ask it what it is afraid would happen if it didn't do this inside of you.
Extend it some appreciation for trying to keep you safe.
How does it react to your appreciation?
Ask: If you could go to what it protects and heal or change that so it was liberated from this protective role, what might it rather be doing instead?
Ask it how old it thinks you are.
If it got your age wrong, update it and see how it reacts.
What does it need from you going forward?
This is paraphrased from Dr Richard Schwartz from the recent Huberman Lab podcast.
I am finding this line of enquiry and update useful and hope it might also be useful to you.
