I'm no fan of Noam Chomsky's recent politics, but I'm grateful for he and Edward Herman coining the term 'flak' in Manufacturing Consent.
I've seen this theory confirmed from the other side of the looking-glass as a journalist.
News knows that if they cover X issue, they need to prepare for incoming flak, so they skirt around it.
