daniel lewin was an american-israeli mathematician and entrepreneur who co-founded akamai technologies in 1998 with tom leighton.
he co-invented the consistent hashing algorithm, a key innovation for content delivery networks (cdns) that improved internet speed and reliability by distributing web content efficiently across servers.
he tragically died on september 11, 2001, as the first victim on american airlines flight 11 during the 9/11 attacks.
