it might be worth while to broaden the perspective to understand the Egyptian uproar. “Pharaohnism” used to be a thing in the 1920 and 30s on the part of liberal Egyptians, see for example Taha Hussein’s “The Future of Culture in Egypt”, and had a racial/cultural component to it, distancing Egypt from Islam and its Arab identity toward Mediterranean identity. It’s been back for a while, now pushed by el-Sisi’s identity politics - so clearly a very sensitive topic. You might also noticed how often Egypt is in the headlines recently with new archeological findings from this period.
