Martin Schiller {soapbox} (npub15ff…3xz7) restoring accounts is nice for the free speech absolutism, true. The community notes is a really cool features that was long overdue. No arguments there.
But also remember that he banned mentioning Mastodon handlers in profiles and even suspended the Join Mastodon account on Twitter. That’s definitely not free speech and also reeks of insecurity, that too over a comparatively tiny social network. Iirc he censored Substack’s new social network thing too.
Pissing off advertisers is really bad as well. My previous job was at a company that used to spend millions on Twitter ads. The people at Twitter who liaised with them were laid off, and suddenly my company couldn’t give him millions of dollars even though they wanted to. It’s May and they haven’t been able to put their ads on Twitter since November.
