agreed Though my concern is that in levelling the finger at Advertising (and I’m with Bill Hicks on that one), we may fail to trace the root cause of this malaise, and that is Capitalism itself. The advertising model, surveillance, the exploitation of labour and the land, etc, all are just symptoms of the tendencies of the capitalist system (as it is currently configured).
