I recently got my Niederlassungserlaubnis (German permanent residency) and and slowly working towards citizenship, and I’m comparing the process to the US’s and just laughing.
In America, citizenship is all EAGLES! and THOMAS JEFFERSON! and DUTY! and FREEDOM! and SOLEMN PRIVILEGE! and in Germany it’s like, “you have successfully demonstrated the ability to navigate German bureaucracy at the highest level. Here is your certificate of mastery.”
