This really follows the whole "transactional politics" thing too.
You can't just give money to an organization and assume they will do the right thing just because they do a little show for you.
Maybe this was true in 1950, but I don't feel like it. I feel like people weren't that naïve then, and this is just boomers who grew up in an insane amount of cultural wealth.
when you are used to getting nothing, it is easier to keep getting nothing and hold to your principles rather than accept something.
It's kind of an inverse sunk cost fallacy.
