I suspect tether is a money laundering operation. The company is an offshore company and we can't prove their USD reserves. They have also been caught doing fraudulent things.
I bet they paid big money to get themselves on the lightning network in order to be able to launder their money into Bitcoin.
They know they can't lauder money through the traditional banking system so they must pay to get tether shitcoin on the lightning network so be able to quickly exchange it into Bitcoin.
The best advice I can give anyone is to accept any shitcoin if you run a business but exchange it into Bitcoin as soon as possible.
If you are developing your own software don't bother with shitcoin development.
What if a big company like tether asks you to develop something to help them money launder?
You should check your laws. There companies are offshore and have no the jurisdirection in where you live so you might be on your own of they are in fact money laundering.
Tether has big money backing them but even they know not to hold on to tether.
In the end Bitcoin wins.
