I used to believe it could be, and I still think it has value.
But I'm more inclined to suggest that Nostr is not the solution. This is not where I intended to ask- but I'm not sure I understand the downside to federated social media. I've never used bsky or mastodon but I came to Nostr instead of Lemmy a few years ago when people were abandoning reddit. Now in 2025 I've learned more about Lemmy and realize what I'm doing with Nostr is just an absolutely laughable way of replicating federated social media.
What's up with federated social? Why is it so widely regarded as bad, when Nostr is doing similar things?
As far as I can tell, maybe Lemmy or other federated services don't offer file uploading natively? I'm not sure if they do or not. And of course they don't appear to have zaps implemented anywhere.
At this rate I feel more inclined to try and add zaps to Lemmy than keep trying to build anything with Nostr. But I'm not trying to complain or be a doomer here. Just my 2c and curious what others think the downside to federations are.
