Modifying retro consoles is controversial. Some people get legitimately upset when you do anything but keep it stock.
My stance is less extreme (for once). I believe these machines were meant to be enjoyed as machines. Most were intended to be tinkered with. If your mod helps your machine be its best self, then I support it. SD or USB floppy replacement? Cool. S-Video or RGB output mod? Fuck yeah. Replace a shitty Keytronic keyboard with Cherry switches? Awesome.
I draw the line at gutting a system out and sticking an unrelated computer inside that loses hardware compatibility. That just seems like it would be cooler with a new, custom case.
