If you go that long without updating, I think that is to be expected. It's hard to make everything backwards compatible forever.
Export database as a json using one of the devices (browser extension or app), completely reinstall the bitwarden server, clearing its database.
I also recommend using vaultwaden instead bitwarden server.
If you want something even more based and simpler: keepass + syncthing
