Anyone have any history on the Metro #Vancouver street grid? It's pretty intelligent (I live near 24 Ave and 160 St in Surrey).
It's eight bocks to a mile (obviously from pre-metric Canada), 0 Ave is the U.S./Canada border, but what I can't figure out is why the longitude for 0 St is an imaginary line out in the Strait. It would make sense if this was a shoreline like in Richmond or something, but it's west of that.
Maybe it's some random point in the University Endowment Lands?
