When I was younger, I had this idea for a business. I still think somebody should do it someday. I noticed wealthy people had living rooms with marble, mahogany, glass, leather, yet they would have a computer or television, made out of plastic, and I felt it cheapened the room.
I had this idea for a company that made fine electronics that were furniture, like televisions and record players used to be, where a computer's keyboard is so nice, it feels like playing a piano instead of a, well, keyboard.
Of course electronics need to be upgraded, but that could be a matter of simply replacing a new CPU insert. Before this can happen, advancement needs to slow a bit. For those who think this won't happen, we are approaching the limits of resolution improvement that can be detected by the average person's eyesight.
Low time preference technology, built to last, to be fixed, and to be upgraded, not to be E-waste.
Imagine a modern version of this:
