In an abstract sense, what we need from AI is truthful patterns of information, preferably ones that aren't intuitive. Then we create the hypotheses and run the experiments. AI is unlikely to ever be good at hypothesis generation. It can show the patterns, and perhaps even run the tests, but that spark of innovation shall remain human.
