There has been no shortage of good ideas and pull requests to Mastodon that have languished for literal years while the core devs futz around with ruining the stylesheet and little else.
What we need is a fork with much less gatekeeping and much more velocity to take the role of the dominant server software for the fediverse.
Hosting costs are also an issue so a focus on efficiency is needed too.
