For my email I have mbsync + maildir-utils and mu4e to have a fully offline copy of all my email indexed into a full-text search database. I want the same thing for IM, especially since matrix's forward-secret cryptosystem makes it really easy to loose encryption keys for older messages
I started writing a matrix account archiver a few months ago but I'd much rather have that integrated as a basic function of the main client
