My father-in-law is about the smartest man anyone that knows him knows. At the beginning of covid stimulus he told us to pay down debts to $0, build an emergency fund that sits under our mattress, and not in a bank, cut our spending in half, and build food storage. He’s the kind of guy that when he says something you listen. Because there something about Jimmy that says to you this guy is right almost all of the time. I’m glad we listened. We have 6 months of food reserves, most of our bills paid 6 months to a year in advance, $15k in ready for an emergency, and our family buissiness is fully funded for a year. We’ll weather this storm, and likely have some money to throw at investments when things start getting ridiculously cheap. Something is coming. It’s very familiar to me. It feels like when I was coming of age as a young man. A decade of easy money followed by a crash that left me homeless, and now we have an entire generation that is in almost the same situation. A childhood of easy money followed by a major financial disaster. I watch my kids going into all of this, and hammer into there heads to get ready, or be homeless. Part of them is taking it serious, and another part reminds me of myself at that age. That scares the shit out of me. We are very lucky to have a business that in an industry that is considered recession proof. There is a good chance that we’ll do better throughout all of this. As we tend to get busier when finances are tight for the rest of the world, and we’ll probably use that extra cash to employee any of our kids that are facing unemployment, or financial troubles.
What’s coming will be a thing that has to be dealt with by all of us. Get ready for it now, or deal with it then. That’s your choice. Choose well.
