well your argument of competition isn't completely true, sure most people on average would be more attracted towards those young and often would prefer staying young than growing older and weaker as they rather prefer to stay in a good physical condition
but overall people have their different views on beauty and don't just bind to the same stereotypical thinking of beauty that is patriarchal in nature
The fact is that our view of women is based on a patriarchal sense where we view the woman as a product and like a product which needs to be fresh we put those standards that we normally do on products but with living human beings who do not want to be viewed as a product and in fact most want to express their own identity which is dismissed as their body becomes their identity instead of what thoughts or personality they have
So this view of commodifying women has been overall a negative traits which only has led to exploitation of such women and especially those underage youths too, as they live by the demands of others instead of living for their own self
