I know this photo doesn't look like much, but I was really excited. I was outside at my new house and heard strange bird noises that I didn't recognize. It sounded almost like a mourning dove crossed with a canada goose, coming from all directions at once. I was really puzzled until I looked up, and discovered that multiple flocks of sandhill cranes were flying right over me! ​ The first flock was lower but I didn't think to get my camera out until after they had moved on.

Moving has been weird, because it feels like I moved quite some distance but then all the birds at the feeders are basically the same, so it's always nice when a truly new species makes an appearance.
